Shelburne Museum Internships and Fellowships

Hey all you graduating Seniors, here is a heads up on the internships and fellowships offered by the Shelburne Museum.

Internship and Fellowship Opportunities 2009 The Margie and Nate Thorne Education and Collections Management Fellowships Education and Collections Management fellows will serve in two key
capacities. Fellows will assist in the development and implementation of education programs such as summer camps, family programs, school programs, and will develop the collection database, in addition to other related cataloguing and documentation duties. The applicant will work well with many types of people and work efficiently on independent projects. Applicants should have a BA or BS with experience in studio art or art history. Experience working with children and CPR/ First Aid certification are a plus.

This is a two year position that provides an annual $16,000 stipend, housing, paid leave, and eligibility to participate in the Museum’s 401(k) plan after 1 year. There will be 6- and 12- month performance
reviews. Two positions are available beginning June 1, 2009.

Curatorial Fellowship
The Curatorial Fellow will receive hands on experience working with a diverse fine and folk art collection as well as participation in day-to-day Museum operations. The person in this position will work
with the Senior Curator, Associate Curator, Curatorial Fellow, Exhibit Preparators, and Archivist/ Librarian, as well as collaborate on exhibit projects with other Museum Departments, in particular Public
Relations and Marketing. A Master’s Degree in art or art history is required. Experience in a museum or art gallery is preferred.

This is a two-year position that provides an annual $16,000 stipend, housing, paid leave, and eligibility to participate in the Museum’s 401(k) plan after 1 year. There will be 6- and 12- month performance
reviews. One position is available and the start date is flexible for the top candidate.

Summer Education Interns
Education interns will divide responsibilities in several education programs, including summer camps, the guide program, family programs, and special events. Interns may work as camp counselors, help with Thursday evening events, and work in the family activity center. Interns also may work as exhibition guides, conduct research, and perform other duties as assigned. Art and/ or art history background preferred. Experience working with children and CPR/ First Aid certification are a plus.

Four positions are available June 1- August 14, 2009; compensations includes a stipend of $2,000 and housing. Shelburne Museum is over 150,000 works of art, Americana, and design located in Vermont’s beautiful Lake Champlain valley. 45 acres of relaxing gardens and grounds surround the Musuem’s 39 exhibition buildings, 25 of which are historic.
