Oberlin Associate Photo Professor Pipo Nguyen-Duy has a solo show at Sam Lee Gallery in Los Angeles, CA opening this Saturday, September 12th. The show will run through October 24th and exhibits work from an ongoing series called “East of Eden”. Nguyen-Duy’s photographs from two trips to Vietnam in 2005 and 2009 are exhibited in this show, the third time Sam Lee Gallery has presented this series . Nguyen-Duy was born in Vietnam but fled conflict in 1975, so his personal connection to the survivors he photographs creates an intimate tone to the work. The backdrop of the beautiful landscape of Vietnam provides an Eden for his subjects who portray the persistance of the human spirit.
A reception for the artist will be held this Saturday from 6-9 pm at the gallery which is located at 990 N. Hill Street #190, Los Angeles, CA 90012, Phone 323-227-0275. Visit www.samleegallery.com for more information.
